Strawberry Mille Crêpes @ Lady M

My wife and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary this week. For dessert I brought home the Strawberry Mille Crêpe and Flourless Chocolate Cake from Lady M. Lady M is a bakery whose mission is to bring the unique flavors of Japanese desserts to America. Their signature dessert is the crêpe cake which is made with no less than twenty layers of lacy thin crepes, whisper light pastry cream and a golden caramelized top. I’ve eaten the Mille Crêpes and the Chocolate Mille Crêpes before, both are outstanding and Highly Recommended. Since my wife likes strawberry shortcake I thought she would enjoy the Strawberry Mille Crêpes. Overall the cake has a light and…

    Coconut Donut @ Dunkin’ Donuts

Donuts are hands down my favorite food category. Dunkin’ Donuts happens to be my favorite coffee so I go there daily. And every day I have to fight off the urge to buy a donut. Most days I win the will power battle but on Sundays I give in to temptation. Being a huge coconut fan naturally the coconut cake donut is one of my all time favorites. Coconut donuts seem to be common place in the suburbs but finding them in NYC is more challenging. When I moved into my current residence in Murray Hill neither one of the local Dunkin’ Donuts sold coconut donuts. One quick online feedback…

    Eggs Chilaquiles @ Trace

My wife and I went to San Francisco to attend a friend’s wedding. We stayed at the W Hotel which happens to be home to destination restaurant Trace. I took this opportunity to have breakfast at Trace all four days. On the second day of our stay I ordered the Eggs Chilaquiles which are described on the menu as being prepared with roasted tomato salsa, crispy tortilla, and queso cotija. I had never heard of chilaquiles before and a quick Google search found “chilaquiles are a traditional Mexican dish of fried tortillas bathed in green or red salsa until tender.” I didn’t know what to expect from what I perceived to…

Cookie Dough Cupcake @ Baked by Melissa

I proposed to my wife in May of 2010 on The High Line. The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. Lucky for me my then fiancée said yes. Afterwards we walked along 14th street and noticed a store called Baked by Melissa. They had the cutest little cupcakes on display. We tried a dozen and have been hooked ever since. I like to surprise my wife with a half dozen of these cupcakes every so often because they remind me of that night, and if I’m lucky she will let me have one! Her current favorite…

    Eggo Pumpkin Spice Waffle

I visited my mother in New Jersey this week and found myself at Target. A freezer on the end cap was filled with Kellogg’s Eggo Seasons Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Waffles. I figured I like waffles and love pumpkin so into the shopping cart they went. Kellogg’s says “Spice up your morning with the flavors of fall. Made with pumpkin spices–cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.” Taking the waffles out of the box the first thing I noticed was the pleasant pumpkin spice scent. I thought to myself if these taste anything like they smell they are gonna be awesome. The color was somewhere between yellow and brown with visible spices speckled throughout. After toasting…
