Banana Pudding Doughnut @ Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme sent me an email that their limited time Strawberries and Kreme Doughnut and Banana Pudding Doughnut would be free on June 20th. I happened to be at Macy’s that day and figured I would duck into Penn Station and grab the Banana Pudding Doughnut.
As you may know when you order 1 or 2 donuts Krispy Kreme puts them into a very slim bag. This results in a donut that is less than picturesque by the time you get it home. I was amazed that this one made it home unscathed during rush hour in Manhattan.
Krispy Kreme describes the Banana Pudding Doughnut as “a sweet banana custard blended with KREME™, dipped in icing and topped with Nilla® wafer pieces”.
The donut looked appealing and had a well constructed, soft yeast shell. A bright yellow frosting covered the top and suggested banana flavor. There were also abundant Nilla wafer bits and crumbs. When I cut the donut in half I was wowed by the amount of filling it had. Now this is how a donut is supposed to be filled!
On first bite I was greeted with the banana flavored icing. The filling had a light banana flavor and it’s texture was a nice blend of custard and Kreme. I expected the Nilla wafers to be crunchy and stronger in flavor but they were soft and kind of bland.
Overall it was an interesting combination that did not live up to my expectations. If you like bananas and Nilla wafers the Banana Pudding Doughnut might be worth a try.
